FoxFire Glen is dedicated to raising healthy large animals that will give
back their cost many times over in production, and temperament. We strive to breed quality dairy goats that milk heavily and
place well in the show ring. I have very high standards with goats, I personally like a very large goat with a lot of bone
that milks well. To me, nothing is worse than a 200 pound animal that doesn't milk well..We maintain a CAE NEGATIVE
herd, and Maryland is a TB and Brucellosis negative state. All kids are pulled from the dam at birth and raised on pasteurized
milk. Not only does this help to ensure a CAE/CL Negative status, but we feel that a bottle fed goat will be more willing
to please, and behave better, and be more affectionate. I have recieved compliments on the friendliness of my herd many times.
Being an ex 4-H'er I have been taken for a ride so to speak, more than a few times. When I sell a doe or buck as a show animal,
that is what I expect it to be, I will not sell an animal as a show animal, if it will place at the back of the line. I have
had this done to me too many times to do it to someone else.
A little bit about the bloodlines I work with:
I have selected animals from the lines that I like. As stated,
I like a very large Nubian, with tremendous bone, and a lot of body capacity. The lines I work with are very slow to mature,
(taking about 4 years). However, when they do mature, they hold together until the day they die, where often times, most fast
growing Nubian's are at their prime from 1-4 years of age. But often, from year 5+, they fall apart, the udder begins to lose
attachment, they drop in milk production, and are less thrifty as an aged animal. I spend a lot of time working with and caring
for my herd, and it does pay off.
I hope you have enjoyed your visit to my website, and hope that you find
my animals as enjoyable as I do.
